It’s nice to meet you. I’d shake your hand if I could, but computers haven’t quite evolved to that. Allow me to introduce myself instead.
First and foremost, I am a Gator. I have a Bachelors degree in Public Relations, a minor in English, and a concentration in Business from the University of Florida. I ran varsity track and cross country there for two years and covered the sports as a reporter for The Independent Alligator. I also co-edited and contributed to The United States Track Coaches Magazine, a Gainesville-based publication, and interned with an Orlando-based public relations firm.
In subsequent years, I wrote and edited the University of South Florida’s College of Business E-Newsletter while earning my Masters degree in Secondary English Education. I then set out to teach our youth to become polished wordsmiths. During my teaching tenure, I found myself increasingly drawn to writing creative lesson plans and articles. To satisfy my urge to write, I began to take on freelance assignments in the public relations and news sectors.
When a full-time staff position became available at a Tampa magazine, I jumped at the chance to perfect my craft. I stayed with the organization for a year and then chose the freedom of full-time freelancing copy writing. Today, you’ll find me snug inside my home office, typing away at 75 words per minute to finish a variety of copywriting projects.
My days are never the same. I relish working on public relations pieces, newsletters, articles, blogs, direct marketing and web pages – sometimes all in the same week. I am always searching for new challenges, and I have a restless imagination – I’m always thinking of the most effective way to write a single sentence. Perfection is my absolute.
I believe in the ability of words to “tangle with human emotions.” (James Michener said it first.) My core competency is my ability to make even the mundane interesting – whether I’m writing about welding wire, a renowned dance program, or a building team about to set out on their latest ABC Extreme Home Makeover project.
I am a contributor to the St. Petersburg Times and enjoy running and reading. Contact me to discuss your writing project, and I’ll happily travel to shake your hand in person – and to discuss how my services can bring value to you and your organization.
